Although security guards serve on different areas and protect various entities, they have one goal, and that is to protect and promote peace.
So if you’re serious about taking this job and building a career as a security personnel, here are some things you need to do.
For establishments or entities to hire you, you need to be a licenced security guard. In Gold Coast, for example, you have to obtain a security license, and you can do that by submitting certain documents and passing requirements such as age and educational attainment. You will also be mandated to take a drug test and undergo fingerprint scanning and background check, which of course, you should pass respectively.
Training is important to have an in-depth knowledge on how to prevent and control difficult situations which you may be faced with at any point when you go on duty. Training doesn’t involve just learning about terms and techniques, but applying them in practical means. Basic training usually consists of 40 hours, but it can be more depending on what specialty you want to have.
Pick a Sector
Although you can work for various entities and companies, choosing a sector or specialty will give you an edge. This way, you can pinpoint which jobs you’d like to take a shot at and be more focused when building your career. Some of the sectors you can work for include office facilities, government branches, retail stores, malls, schools, parks, galleries, museums, and military bases.
These are just the first steps you need to take if you want to be a certified security personnel. The real challenge is being on the field, so do your best to be prepared for it.
